Questions to ask after reading:

=Explain what the main character is.  Have student tell who the main character or  characters are in the story.

=What is the setting?  Can be in more than one place.  Ex:  home and then at the park.

=Have student read 2-3 pages, then have them tell what happened.  Continue throughout the book.

=Have student predict what he thinks will happen in the story.

=If there was a problem and solution….have the student tell what the problem was and how it was solved. 

=Ask a specific question such as:  “What happened after the dog ran away from home?”  “What happened before Mom cooked dinner?”

=Have the student tell 2 or 3 events that happened in the story in the order that they happened.

=Select a word (or words) in the book.  Ask the student what the word means.

=Does this story remind you of anything you’ve done or heard of before?  If so, what?

=Select 2 or 3 words that are easy to make rhymes…Have reader make a word that rhymes with a word in the text.

=Have student locate words that begin with an M sound, or P sound, F sound, etc.

=If a description is given of  one of the characters, have the student describe the character in his own words.

=Have student locate words with ending sounds such as t, p, l, etc.

=After reading, have student tell how the story ends.
