| ESL is an intensive program
of instruction with the purpose of developing competence in
English. At Zavala, students are served by a specially
certified teacher at every grade level. In grades K-4, some
children work with Mrs. Quintanar, in a small group setting, on very
specific objectives listed below. |
Kindergarten:
*Learn and review the name and the sound of
the letter of the week.
*Learn and review the number of the week.
*Students learn the First Grade Core Word
List and write simple sentences. |
First Grade:
*Review weekly Word Wall Words and form
sentences using these words.
*Read Bright Ideas Phonics Practice
Reader.
*Read Take Home Book in class
then discuss what they read.

Second Grade:
*Review weekly spelling words and
concentrate on the rules of spelling and
learning to apply those rules
in everyday writing in all subjects.
*Review weekly Science, Social Studies, and
Geography questions. |
Third and Fourth Grade:
*Students work with the English at
Your Command! Program. They read
and review the daily lesson. Students use their workbook to answer the
lesson questions. |
