Literacy Strategist The Literacy Strategist helps to provide quality reading instruction to all students. Intensive reading strategies are taught on a rotating basis for grades K-5. I assist in analyzing data, which helps to guide academic instruction and monitor student progress. I also help teachers with strategies, materials, and lesson plans. Small group lessons are provided on a daily basis for first graders, with explicit instruction for those identified "at risk". Working with administration, teachers, and students reminds me each day that setting a good example is the best sermon possible.
The Rap Program The Reading Achievement Program (RAP) is a specialty program aimed at increasing reading development. The RAP program is provided for students in third and fifth grades that do not meet the standard on the TAKS test. These students meet each day for 45 minutes of intense daily instruction in a small group setting. RAP classes consist of direct instruction on the students’ appropriate instructional level, strategy and skill practice, vocabulary building, and developing fluency.
