Erin Whisenhunt

Mrs. Whisenhunt brings 19 years of experience in education, including 14 years of dedicated service to Grand Prairie ISD. She has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and most recently as the principal of Garner Fine Arts Academy.

A proud Texas Aggie, Mrs. Whisenhunt earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and her master’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. She is currently completing her doctorate in Educational Leadership at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Her leadership and commitment to student success have been recognized across the region, earning her the Region 10 Assistant Principal of the Year Award in 2021 and the Region 10 TEPSAN of the year in 2026.

Known for her student-centered leadership style, Mrs. Whisenhunt is passionate about creating a culture where every child is valued, challenged, and empowered. She believes strong relationships, high expectations, and meaningful learning experiences are the foundation of a thriving school community. Her commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaboration aligns seamlessly with the mission and vision of Lorenzo de Zavala Environmental Science Academy.

Outside of school, Mrs. Whisenhunt enjoys spending time with her two children, Tristen and Bria, and can often be found cheering them on from the sidelines as they pursue their passions. As both an educator and a parent, she understands the importance of creating opportunities for students to discover their strengths, build confidence, and shine in their own unique ways.

Mrs. Whisenhunt is honored to join the de Zavala community and looks forward to partnering with students, staff, and families to build upon the school's strong tradition of excellence while continuing to inspire a love of learning and environmental stewardship in every student.
